LAFO

The Land-Atmosphere Feedback Observatory (LAFO) was initiated in 2018 at the “Heidfeldhof” (48.71° N, 9.19° E), an agricultural research farm of the University of Hohenheim providing also crop management data. Monthly mean 2-m temperatures (1961-1990) at this location are between 0°C and 18°C, and annual precipitation is 698 mm. Soils are mainly Stagnic Luvisols and the bedrock material belongs to the so-called „Angulate Sandstone Formation“, which consists of clay stones with intruded platy fine sandstone and siltstone banks. These materials have a low hydraulic conductivity that limits the vertical drainage of water. For this reason, a network of drainage pipes runs through the area.
